Younger: Looking Forward to Getting Older

In a quiet corner, far from the lure of big money, celebrity status, and drug scandals, the true value of sport comes into focus. This is a film about friendship and purpose in masters athletics. It is a realm where advancing in five-year increments makes you the youngest competitor. Younger follows a cohort of women in their 60s, 70s, and 80s across a year as they train for masters-level competitions. Master events are organized in five-year age bands—60–64, 65–69, and so forth. When an athlete advances to the next band, she becomes the youngest in that group, heightening her chances to win or set records. As they near the upper end of their category, they anticipate aging into the next group, where they will once again be the fresh entrant vying for success.
