In 221 BCE, King Yingzheng of Qin ended the protracted wars across the Central Plains and founded the first unified feudal dynasty in Chinese history—the Qin Dynasty. The Han Dynasty inherited the Qin system. Emperor Wu of the Han, Liu Che, governed with an ideology that exclusively honored Confucianism, and he expanded the meaning of great unification to include the idea that all the people return to their hearts, and the family and the country are united. In Emperor Wu's view, the ultimate goal of great unification was directed toward the Western Regions.
