Meeting Highlights Political and Economic Significance

Political analyst Azer Garayev stated that the regional policy of President Ilham Aliyev opens new options for Azerbaijan-Netherlands ties, according to a statement provided to Trend. Garayev emphasized that the recent meeting between Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen and President Ilham Aliyev holds significant political and economic importance for the future development of bilateral relations.

The analyst noted that the reception of Berendsen by Aliyev, along with the high appreciation of Azerbaijan’s role in ensuring peace and stability in the South Caucasus, serves as an indicator of the attention paid to the Azerbaijani state’s position within the system of international relations. Garayev explained that the Dutch Foreign Minister specifically emphasized President Ilham Aliyev’s personal role in establishing peace and stability in the region, noting its significance for both the South Caucasus and Europe.

Strategic Positioning in Regional Stability

Garayev remarked that in modern international relations, a state's standing is determined by its capacity to influence regional processes, engage in dialogue, and establish cooperation mechanisms based on mutual interests. This perspective frames the recent diplomatic engagements not merely as bilateral exchanges, but as part of a broader strategy where Azerbaijan’s geopolitical weight is increasingly recognized by European partners.

The analyst identified expanding relations with European states, developing economic partnerships, and strengthening regional stability as key priorities in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. Garayev emphasized that Azerbaijan’s geographical location, energy resources, developing transport infrastructure, and growing role in the international transport system position it as a vital link between Europe and Asia.

Garayev stated that developing relations with the Netherlands, which has extensive experience in international trade, port management, and logistics, could open new prospects for expanding Azerbaijan’s economic opportunities. Attention during the meeting focused on expanding economic and trade relations, with the presence of Dutch companies in various sectors serving as an indicator of the existing economic foundation for cooperation.

Expanding Agricultural and Technological Ties

During the meeting between President Aliyev and Foreign Minister Berendsen, discussions covered political dialogue, economic cooperation, investment opportunities, transport and logistics links, and the expansion of cooperation in the agricultural sector. Garayev highlighted agriculture as an area with promising potential for cooperation, citing the Netherlands' expertise in modern agricultural technologies, greenhouse operations, enhancing productivity, and efficient resource use.

Garayev suggested that organizing reciprocal business visits, strengthening direct ties between entrepreneurs, and implementing joint projects could yield concrete results beyond increasing trade turnover. The analyst said the primary objective includes attracting new investments, expanding technology exchange, and contributing to the development of the non-oil sector.

Garayev remarked that the Dutch side’s intention to develop relations creates additional opportunities for advancing ties with European nations across a broader range of areas. This suggests that the current diplomatic momentum may serve as a catalyst for deeper integration into European economic networks, leveraging the Netherlands' established position in global trade infrastructure.
