Empowerment Programme Launches in Makurdi
Senator Titus Zam, representing the Benue North-West Senatorial District, distributed 900 empowerment items to constituents on Friday as part of his sixth major empowerment programme. The event took place in Makurdi and was designed to promote self-reliance, job creation, and economic opportunities for residents.
The specific inventory of items presented to beneficiaries included 180 motorcycles, 320 sewing machines, 300 grinding machines, 60 power hand tillers, and 40 car-wash pumping machines. During the ceremony, Zam urged the recipients to deploy the equipment productively to generate income and create opportunities for others in the community.
Zam noted that this latest intervention builds upon previous programmes he has overseen, which have covered leatherwork, hairdressing, pepper cultivation, and dry-season rice farming. He also highlighted earlier initiatives that provided scholarships for 350 indigent students, fertiliser distribution, food assistance for vulnerable households, and relief materials for internally displaced persons.
Constituency Projects and Political Endorsements
In addition to the empowerment items, Zam listed several constituency projects completed or underway in his district. These include the construction of classrooms, clinics, police stations, and roads, alongside the provision of motorised boreholes, electricity extensions, and solar-powered streetlights.
At the event, Zam commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), describing it as a strategic vehicle for grassroots development. He expressed optimism that Tinubu’s re-election would be straightforward.
Comrade Austin Agada, Benue state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and National Secretary of the Rainbow Coalition movement led by Nyesom Wike, declared that the coalition would mobilise massive votes for Tinubu, Zam, and Senator George Akume in the 2027 general elections.
Agada commended Zam for his consistent commitment to constituents, recalling his attendance at three of the senator’s empowerment programmes, including one held within Zam’s first few months in office.
Recognition of Sponsors and Leadership
Zam thanked NCDC Chairman Dr. Cosmas Akighir and Managing Director Dr. Cyril Tsenyil for sponsoring the programme. He also acknowledged Senate President Godswill Akpabio for appointing him as the pioneer Chairman of the Senate Committee on the NCDC, and Senator George Akume for his guidance.
