Contested Race for County Auditor
Charlee Paull, a Republican, and Brielle Joyce, a Democrat, are vying for the position of Grays Harbor County Auditor in the upcoming general election. The race is contested after incumbent Joseph R. MacLean, also a Republican, chose not to seek reelection.
The Daily World recently contacted candidates in contested races affecting Grays Harbor County to participate in a written question-and-answer session via email. Each candidate was asked the same set of questions regarding their qualifications and platform for the office.
Paull Outlines Financial Background and Priorities
Charlee Paull stated that she brings nearly two decades of professional experience in the financial industry to the role. Her career path progressed from a teller to a manager and into mortgage lending, which she said taught her accuracy, compliance, and responsible oversight.
Paull identified herself as being born and raised in Oakville and currently living nearby. She described this election as her first time seeking public office.
In her response to the questionnaire, Paull listed several priorities for the Auditor’s Office if elected. These include restoring accountability, strengthening public trust, and improving services. She also stated a goal of bringing Department of Licensing services back under the Auditor’s Office.
Paull emphasized the need for efficient and transparent fiscal reporting as well as strengthening civic engagement and confidence in elections. She stated that she intends to run the office for the people of Grays Harbor, rather than for any party or political agenda.
Regarding election administration, Paull said that it must follow state and federal laws exactly as written.
