Security Directives for Corps Members

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has issued strict security directives to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could endanger their lives during their service year. The Governor specifically cautioned corps members against night journeys, unsafe waterway travel, cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, and partisan politics. He warned that engaging in such activities could compromise safety and undermine the core objectives of the NYSC scheme.

Diri delivered these charges on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the three-week orientation course for 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members. The event took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Boro Town, Bayelsa State. Representing the Governor was his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Dr Wisdom Poyeri.

In his address, Diri urged the corps members to strictly observe safety regulations and use approved safety equipment at all times. He emphasized the importance of promptly reporting any security concerns through appropriate channels to ensure their well-being throughout the service year.

Charges on Discipline, Integration, and Entrepreneurship

The governor congratulated the corps members on successfully completing the orientation course. He charged them to uphold discipline, demonstrate professionalism, and deploy their skills toward addressing developmental needs in host communities. Diri encouraged corps members to integrate peacefully into these communities by respecting local people, culture, and traditions. This approach, he noted, is essential to promote peaceful coexistence and advance the national service scheme objectives.

On the subject of entrepreneurship and self-reliance, Diri urged corps members to build on the skills acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme. He advised them to pursue additional post-camp training to strengthen their entrepreneurial capacity, ensuring sustainable livelihoods after the service year.

Government Commitment and Camp Acknowledgments

The governor reaffirmed the Bayelsa State Government’s commitment to working with the NYSC and other stakeholders. This collaboration aims to safeguard corps member welfare and provide an enabling environment for effective service delivery across the state.

Diri commended NYSC management, Bayelsa State Coordinator Mr Samuel Amaramiro Pepple, the Camp Director, the Camp Commandant, and other camp officials for their contributions to the successful orientation exercise. The ceremony marked the end of the three-week orientation course, with corps members expected to proceed to their respective places of primary assignment across Bayelsa State to begin the next phase of national service.
