Election Cycle Spending Exceeds Previous Years

Fresno State political science professor Dr. Thomas Holyoke reported that spending in this election cycle is unprecedented, exceeding amounts from the previous presidential election year by billions of dollars.

Holyoke stated that Republicans have a "plethora of money" and Democrats are wisely not taking anything for granted in the competitive district. He noted that the House of Representatives being up for grabs makes any potentially competitive district a major priority for both national parties.

There has been a fair amount of spending going on in that district, Holyoke said. Part of the increased activity is attributed to Republicans having significant financial resources, while Democrats are approaching the race with caution given its competitive nature.
