Gold Price Action and Technical Levels

Gold (XAUUSD) is trading near $4,188, maintaining a bullish bias above the $4,176 support level. Market participants are monitoring resistance levels at $4,201 and $4,218 for potential upward movement.

Silver prices are also showing strength, with the metal trading at $57.66. Silver holds a bullish bias above $57.39, and analysts note that a break above the $57.86 resistance level could target prices of $59.37 and $60.45.

Inflation Data and Federal Reserve Policy

Market sentiment regarding Federal Reserve interest rate policy has been influenced by recent economic data. September Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures rose 3.7% year-over-year, marking the highest inflation reading since May. Producer Price Index (PPI) data climbed 6.3%, further sustaining expectations for potential rate hikes.

Following hawkish comments from Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams, traders initially priced in a greater than 50% probability of an interest rate hike in October. However, dollar strength and 10-year Treasury yields eased after subsequent remarks from Fed officials Bowman and Daly.

The Federal Reserve is entering a pre-meeting blackout period starting Saturday. The September Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation number is scheduled for release on October 29, following the Fed's meeting on October 27-28.

Central Bank Purchases and ETF Inflows

The People’s Bank of China increased its gold reserves by 740,000 ounces. This acquisition marks the largest single purchase since September 2023 and represents the 23rd consecutive month of gold buying by the central bank.

Institutional investment in gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) also reached significant levels. Gold ETFs recorded record third-quarter inflows of $31 billion, lifting total holdings to a new high of 4,256 tonnes.

Silver Market Fundamentals

The Silver Institute projects a sixth consecutive annual deficit in the silver market for 2026, estimating a shortfall of 46.3 million ounces. While declining usage in solar panels may offset some supply constraints, demand is increasing from other sectors.

Growth in demand from data centers, the automotive industry, and artificial intelligence technology is cited as a key factor supporting silver prices despite the projected deficit.
