Induction Ceremony Details
Three teams featuring Eisenhower High School standouts will enter the Washington State University Hall of Fame this Friday night at Beasley Coliseum. Dave Edler from the 1976 baseball team, Gary Patrick from the 1981 football team, and Sarah Silvernail from the 1996 volleyball team are scheduled to be inducted at a dinner event.
The honorees will also be recognized during Saturday's football game against Boise State. The induction ceremony marks the culmination of their recognition for athletic achievements that set program records and advanced their respective sports at the university level.
Athletic Achievements and Legacy
Silvernail, a member of the 1996 volleyball team, won the Pac-10 player of the year award and earned first-team All-America honors for that Washington State squad. Six years prior to her collegiate success, she led the Eisenhower Cadets to a Class AAA state title as a sophomore.
During her time at Washington State, Silvernail set program records for career kills (1,848), single-season kills (649), and most kills in a match (39). Her collegiate performance previously earned her induction into the Washington State and Pac-12 Hall of Fame.
Edler was a key player on the 1976 baseball team that won a program-record 43 games and reached the College World Series. He served as a third-team All-American at third base for the Cougars. Prior to his college career, Edler won the American Legion player of the year award when he led the Yakima Beetles to the 1975 American Legion World Series title.
The 1981 football team featuring Patrick finished with an 8-3-1 record and reached the Cougars' first bowl game in 50 years. Patrick started for four years at Washington State before moving into coaching and administration.
Post-Collegiate Careers
Edler was drafted by Seattle in the 21st round of the 1978 MLB draft. He played four years for the Mariners before transitioning to public service, joining the Yakima City Council in 2003 and becoming mayor in 2006.
Patrick coached football at Naches Valley from 1997 to 2004. Following his coaching tenure, he became the school's athletic director.
