Obasanjo declares stance on Ogun Central representation

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, former lawmaker and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, declared on Wednesday that Ogun Central would no longer tolerate political marginalisation. She insisted the zone must produce the next deputy governor of Ogun State.

The declaration was made during a rally at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Abeokuta. At the event, she was formally received into the party and presented with its senatorial ticket for Ogun Central.

Position on Deputy Governorship

Senator Obasanjo stated regarding her position: "We don't want the Speaker position. Ogun Central will not accept anything less than the deputy governorship. That is what we will settle for".

The former lawmaker attributed these remarks to heightened political activities in Ogun State following her defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Accusations against APC

Senator Obasanjo accused the APC of sidelining Ogun Central and imposing candidates on the zone. She described what she termed as the exclusion of Ogun Central from key positions in the state's political structure over the last eight years.

According to her, under the current arrangement, the governor is from Ogun East and the deputy governor is from Ogun West. She stated that most strategic positions are concentrated in Ogun West while Ogun Central has been relegated to less influential roles.
