Diaspora Rally Outside Indian High Commission

\n

Members of the Indian diaspora gathered in London outside the Indian High Commission on Oct. 17 to demonstrate support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a report by the Indian News Service (IANS). Participants waved the Tricolour and chanted slogans including ‘Modi, Modi’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, and ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during the gathering.

During the event, attendees directed criticism toward protesters from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), who were holding a separate demonstration. One London-based diaspora member described the CJP as a “Confused Janata Party,” stating that the group did not understand the nature of their own actions.

The participant questioned the presence of individuals from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Palestine at the CJP demonstration. The attendee noted that the protest was related to Indian politics and asked what role these international groups had in the matter. The diaspora member contrasted the supporters’ chants with those of the protesters, stating, “We say ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’; they don’t.”

Arguments on Sovereignty and Democratic Process

Another participant argued that Indian politics should remain within India’s borders because only residents within the country have the right to vote. The individual outlined three points regarding the opposition's conduct: first, that political disputes should stay domestic; second, that those who oppose the Modi government should vote for a different administration based on their ideology; and third, that they should not damage India’s image while abroad.

A third diaspora member stated that the gathering was intended to support India’s “vibrant democracy,” citing Prime Minister Modi’s election victory three times as evidence of democratic legitimacy. Another participant alleged that the opposing activities were foreign-funded and claimed the protesters lacked the courage to fight elections and win democratically.

\n

The rally aimed to defend India’s image abroad against demonstrations that sought to damage the country’s reputation on foreign soil, according to the report.
