Miami’s Defensive Line Faces ACC’s Lowest-Ranked Offense

Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Marquise Lightfoot (8) is preparing to face Clemson’s offense, which Sports Illustrated reports ranks as the worst in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Through four games of the regular season, Clemson has scored the second-fewest points in the conference. Despite the low rankings, Miami is treating the upcoming matchup with high intensity. The Hurricanes’ defense is currently ranked No. 2 in the country, according to Sports Illustrated. The teams are scheduled to meet at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on September 26, 2026. During a previous game at the same venue on that date, Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Marquise Lightfoot (8) sacked Central Michigan Chippewas quarterback Angel Flores (7) during the first quarter.

Lightfoot’s Approach to Clemson

Lightfoot described Clemson’s offense as "amazing" in a statement, noting that the team is an "amazing team." He stated that Miami will continue to move forward with a 1-0 mindset while preparing for the Tigers. "This week we're getting prepared for them," Lightfoot said. "So, y'all just gonna see it at the stadium. You're just gonna see how I end up." Lightfoot emphasized the unit's preparation methods. "We compete a lot and we train a lot, together as a unit," he said. He highlighted the mutual growth within the defensive line, citing the ability to push each other and correct small details in their games. "But just their ability to push me I push them and just correct, just little small things in my game and me doing the same in them," Lightfoot stated. "So, the growth is there just around us."

Supporting the Defensive Front

Lightfoot is anchored alongside Armondo Blount, Damon Wilson II, Justin Scott, and Ahmad Moten Sr. on Miami's defensive front, according to Sports Illustrated. Defensive end Herbert Scroggins III credited his development to learning from seniors Rueben and Akheem last year as a freshman. Scroggins stated he focuses on technique and fundamentals, following the role given by Coach JT to be ready to hit the field at any time. "Last year being a freshman, just learning from Rueben and Akheem and just how they took the game, and I'm just a high person on technique and fundamentals," Scroggins said. "So I just understood them and how the game was, and I just put it in my game. It just carried on to this year, and, you know, just me following the role that Coach JT gave me and just being ready to hit the field at any given time." Clemson’s offensive struggles were highlighted recently when LSU crushed the Tigers in a previous matchup. Miami now turns its attention to Hard Rock Stadium for the September 26 contest.
