An inspection of an Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) government-run farm has concluded that animal welfare standards are "high".
The assessment was conducted following public concerns regarding allegations made against the facility. The results were reported by Stanley McDowell, chief executive of AFBI, during a hearing in Stormont's farming-and-environment committee on 18th Jun 2026.
According to Mr McDowell, inspectors do not provide favours to the AFBI and that its facilities are treated the same as any other facility inspected. Dr Stanley McDowell stated this during his testimony at the committee hearing.
