Modi Outlines Vision for Technology and Inclusive Growth at Bloomberg Forum

New Delhi, October 13, 2026 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi on Tuesday, presenting a vision centered on "power to empower." He stated that technology, data, knowledge, and innovation should be utilized to benefit people rather than remain concentrated among a few.

Modi emphasized that the real question regarding power is not who possesses it, but how it is being used to create opportunities for millions of people. He welcomed the decision to host the forum in India for the first time, telling Bloomberg founder Michael Bloomberg that he had chosen the right place at the right time.

The eighth edition of the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, themed “A World in Play: Defining the New Levers of Power,” convened more than 500 public and private sector leaders to examine geopolitics and future prosperity. During his address, Modi stated that India is no longer just a destination for investment but a trusted partner in shaping the global future as it pursues Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

A Shift in Global Mindset

The Prime Minister emphasized a shift in thinking toward empowerment over control, cooperation over competition, and helping others succeed over individual success. Highlighting this collaborative approach, Modi said, “We do not grow at anyone's cost. We grow with the world and for the world.”

Describing India as the “Mother of Democracy,” Modi cited over 100 languages, around 80,000 registered newspapers and publications, more than 1,000 satellite television channels, more than 500 million YouTube users, and over 500 million Instagram users. He used these figures to illustrate the scale of India's digital and democratic landscape.

Startup Ecosystem and Digital Infrastructure

Modi highlighted India's digital payment ecosystem as an example of inclusive technology, noting that both street vendors and car showroom operators use the same platform regardless of business scale. He also stated that the number of startups in India has increased from a few hundred before 2014 to over 2.5 lakh.

Noting the geographic and gender diversity within this growth, Modi noted that nearly half of these startups come from small cities and towns, and 45 percent have a woman director or partner. He said India is sharing its experience with Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) with other countries to help them develop digital systems suited to their needs.

Referencing the COVID-19 pandemic, Modi mentioned that India created the CoWIN platform as an open-source system and aims to ensure India’s capabilities empower humanity.
