Samba Secures Decisive Victory in Regional Chairmanship Contest

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has retained Mohammed Baantima Samba as its Northern Regional Chairman following a decisive victory in the party’s regional executive elections. The outcome of the chairmanship contest was determined by a total of 387 valid votes cast by delegates, reflecting the collective will of the party's grassroots leadership in the region.

Mr. Samba polled 215 votes, securing a clear majority that underscored the strong support he garnered from the delegates. This significant mandate allowed him to defeat his closest contender, Amadu Inusah, who obtained 122 votes. The substantial difference of 93 votes between the two leading candidates highlighted the decisive nature of Mr. Samba's re-election.

Two other candidates also participated in the race for the top regional position, further demonstrating the democratic process within the party. Musah Fuseini secured 44 votes, while Salifu Abdul Mumin received five votes. The distribution of votes among the four contenders solidified Mr. Samba's position as the preferred leader for the NPP's Northern Regional structure.

The re-election of Mr. Samba means he will continue to lead the party's regional structure, a critical role as the NPP begins its preparations for the upcoming 2028 general election. His victory provides him with a clear mandate to continue his leadership role within the party's organizational framework, focusing on strategy, mobilization, and grassroots engagement across the Northern Region.

A Unified Executive Team for Regional Mobilization

In addition to the chairmanship race, delegates elected a full slate of regional executives, forming a comprehensive team designed to support the party's operations and strategic objectives. These positions are crucial for the day-to-day functioning of the party and for implementing its agenda at the regional level. The election results for the other key positions were as follows:

  • First Vice Chairman: Ayamba Yelmagli was elected to this pivotal position, tasked with assisting the Chairman and stepping in when necessary to ensure continuity in leadership.
  • Second Vice Chairman: Abdul Rahman Mahama won this role, providing additional support to the Chairman and the First Vice Chairman, thereby strengthening the regional leadership core.
  • Regional Secretary: Dr. Abdul Rahman Karim Kpala was selected for this post, a critical administrative role responsible for managing party records, coordinating meetings, and overseeing official communications.
  • Deputy Secretary: Bediako Jeremiah secured the position, offering essential support to the Regional Secretary in all administrative and organizational duties.
  • Treasurer: Husseini Abubakari Saddiq was elected as the party's financial officer, responsible for managing the regional party's funds, ensuring transparency and accountability in financial matters.
  • Women’s Organiser: Hajia Suraiya Manan took on the role of organizing women within the party structure, a key position focused on mobilizing female members, advocating for their interests, and enhancing their participation in party activities.
  • Nasara Organiser: Mohammed Ibrahim was appointed to this position, which is vital for outreach and engagement with specific community groups, ensuring broad representation and support for the party.
  • Organiser: Salifu Abdul Rashid was elected as an organiser, a role central to grassroots mobilization, coordinating campaigns, and ensuring effective ground operations across the region.
  • Communication Officer: Yussif Danjuma won the role responsible for party communications, tasked with shaping the NPP's message, engaging with the media, and disseminating information to the public and party members.

This newly elected executive team is now positioned to work collaboratively, supporting Chairman Samba's efforts in organizing and mobilizing party members across the Northern Region. Their collective mandate is to strengthen the party's presence and prepare it for future electoral contests.

Strategic Continuity for the 2028 General Election

Following the announcement of the results, Mr. Samba delivered an acceptance speech addressing the delegates and party members. In his address, he emphasized that the election had provided him with a clear mandate to continue leading the regional structure. This mandate is not merely about retaining a position but is specifically focused on the arduous and strategic preparation required for the upcoming 2028 general election.
