Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has escalated a local personnel dispute by sending a formal letter to Sarasota County Schools officials, alleging that Pine View School history teacher Elizabeth Ballard mistreated an eighth-grade student based on his political views. In the correspondence, Uthmeier stated unequivocally that if the allegations were true, the teacher should be fired and her teaching certificate revoked.
The attorney general’s letter to the Superintendent of Sarasota County Schools accused Ballard of labeling a student a misogynist, disparaging the student’s father, and potentially breaking state law.
