Allen Prepares for Game 4 Start After Relief Appearance
KT Wiz pitcher Logan Allen said Wednesday in Suwon that he is ready to take any role the team needs in the Korean Series, emphasizing a flexible approach to his duties. "I am ready to do whatever team needs," Allen stated, reflecting a mindset shaped by his extensive experience in professional baseball across different continents.
After pitching in long relief in Tuesday’s 8-7 win over the Samsung Lions, Allen is slated to start Game 4 on Saturday at Daegu Samsung Lions Park. The move marks a significant shift for the right-hander, who was moved from long relief back to the starting rotation specifically for this crucial matchup.
Allen said he can recover quickly and is prepared to pitch again if needed. He addressed the challenges posed by the upcoming venue, noting that while Daegu Samsung Lions Park has a reputation for favoring hitters, it does not intimidate him. His confidence stems from his performance in regular-season play at that specific location, where he has allowed no home runs in 11 2/3 innings.
Allen faced three batters in the seventh inning Tuesday, allowing two hits and being charged with two earned runs. The Lions scored five runs in the seventh to cut an 8-0 deficit to 8-5, then added two runs in the eighth before losing by one. Despite the early exit from that game, Allen remains focused on his upcoming start.
Manager Acknowledges Bullpen Decision
Manager Lee Kang-chul said it was a mistake to bring Allen in before left-hander Oh Won-seok with three consecutive left-handed batters due up. The decision highlighted a strategic misstep, as the matchup favored the opposing lineup's strengths.
Lee stated that Allen would not pitch in relief again during the series, ensuring the pitcher is fresh for his scheduled start. This clarification allows Allen to focus entirely on his preparation for Game 4 without the uncertainty of bullpen duties.
Allen allowed no home runs in 11 2/3 regular-season innings at Daegu Samsung Lions Park. He noted that this statistic gives him confidence heading into the high-pressure environment of the Korean Series playoffs.
Allen said he had pitched as both a starter and reliever in the United States, in the major and minor leagues. This dual experience has made him comfortable with role changes, whether he is expected to go deep into a game or provide short relief. He feels that this versatility allows him to adapt to whatever situation arises during the series.
Allen said he is ready to do whatever team needs. His willingness to embrace any role underscores his commitment to the Wiz's success in their pursuit of the championship title.
