Air traffic controller Markus Hofer bears partial responsibility for a collision between two aircraft that claimed 83 lives. Although the catastrophe occurred a year earlier, he remains wracked by guilt, a burden his wife Franziska can only bear by engaging in affairs. Erik Loth, by contrast, is driven by revenge, having lost his wife and daughter in the disaster and now resolved to kill the pilot responsible.
