A Trip to Mars
Naval captain Avanti Planetaros, inspired by his astronomer father, embarks to traverse the cosmos and reach distant worlds. He becomes an aviator and, together with the young scientist Dr. Krafft, drives the construction of a state-of-the-art space-ship. Despite firm opposition from the sardonic Professor Dubius, Planetaros gathers a fearless crew and launches into the unknown. During the protracted voyage, tensions mount and a mutiny is narrowly averted. Upon reaching Mars, they discover a civilization that has achieved a higher level of development, living free from disease, sorrow, violence, sexual urges, and the fear of death. Avanti falls in love with Marya, daughter of the Prince of Wisdom, the Martians’ leader. Marya reciprocates his feelings and chooses to return with him to Earth to share the wisdom of the Martians with a still-backward world.
