Ratnagiri-based young Gargi, who lives with her widowed mother Devki and enjoys an affluent lifestyle, relocates to Pune to enroll in a hostel. There she must contend with a hostile roommate, Roopa Bhattacharya; a wealthy Mohan Ranade who seeks to flirt with her; follow the instructions of her guardian, Shekhar, who wishes to wed her; learn dancing and singing from the renowned maestro Pundit Omkarnath; and return home to confront the truth that her mother once led a secret life and that her father is still alive.
