In response to a deteriorating crime landscape, Japan establishes Tokyo Butei High, a premier academy where Butei—armed detectives—sharpen deadly skills with the aim of becoming mercenary-like guardians of justice. Among its students is Kinji Tooyama, a taciturn, curt sophomore who once trained with the combat-centric Assault Division. He now leads a laid-back life focused on logistics to conceal a powerful yet embarrassing special ability. His tranquil existence is upended when he becomes the target of the infamous Butei Killer, and he crosses paths with Aria Holmes Kanzaki, a volatile and supreme prodigy whose forceful presence unsettles all. After saving Kinji’s life and recognizing what he is truly capable of, she insists he become her partner.
