Director Mario Van Peebles chronicles the intricate, volatile making of his father Melvin's iconic 1971 film, Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song. Portraying his father in the project, Van Peepbles delivers an unapologetic account of Melvin's brash and at times deceptive conduct on set, including contentious episodes such as writing bad checks, deceiving a local fire department, and allowing his son Mario to shoot racy sex scenes at the age of 11.
