Balún Canán

Based on Rosario Castellanos' novel Balún Canán, the narrative centers on the disruption wrought by Cárdenas' land reforms. Set in Chiapas, on the Guatemala border, predominantly in the town of Comitán, the story follows Zoraida as she battles to preserve her ancestral properties and secure the inheritance reserved for her only son. In response to her steadfast actions, the sorcerers of Chacjatal unleash a death curse upon her son.
