Borges and Me
Jay Parini, a reserved 23-year-old student with literary ambitions, finds himself stranded in a Morris Minor, acting as chauffeur to the brilliant, blind Jorge Luis Borges as they travel across Scotland. The journey juxtaposes Parini's quiet conservatism with Borges's wild, irrepressible intellect—a 70-year-old genius whose presence defies easy explanation. As the voyage tilts into surreal territory, their differences sharpen, but true to the spirit of a classic road trip, they eventually discover common ground.
