Bread

Bread is a British television sitcom created by Carla Lane, produced by the BBC, and broadcast on BBC1 from 1 May 1986 to 3 November 1991. The series centers on the devout Catholic Boswell clan of Liverpool, based in the Dingle district, led by matriarch Nellie as they navigate the ups and downs of life in Thatcher-era Britain with no obvious means of support. The opening scene of each episode features Elswick Street. A Boswell family also appeared in Lane’s earlier sitcom The Liver Birds, and Lane has stated that the two families are probably related. Nellie's feckless, estranged husband Freddie left her for another woman known as 'Lilo Lill'. Her children, Joey, Jack, Adrian, Aveline, and Billy, remain in the family home on Kelsall Street and contribute to the central family fund largely through welfare fraud and the sale of stolen goods.
