For ten years, immigrant Tobias has labored in a Swiss clock factory, watching life slip by to the relentless rhythm of its ticking with little expectation for more. Then one day, he encounters Caroline, a former schoolmate from Eastern Europe, and falls deeply in love with her, only to discover that she is married and has a daughter.
