Candidats pour du beur ?
Tracing the arc of the struggle for genuine equality, we follow the children of immigrant workers who have been selected as diversity candidates in electoral campaigns dating back to the 2007 presidential election. On the ground, through gatherings, debates, and more intimate encounters with candidates and veterans from past struggles, a broad spectrum of thought emerges. Yet they share one aim: to be more than merely candidates for Beurs. Joined by activists from working-class neighborhoods—from Clichy-sous-Bois to Marseille, via Roubaix—these candidates include Mouloud Aounit, Kamel Hamza, Faouzi Lamdaoui, Halima Boumedienne, Omar Slaouti, Samia Ghali, Karim Zeribi, Rama Yade, and others. Will these new faces of the Republic appear in the frame when the votes are tallied, or will they simply be candidates for Beurs?
