Christiana

In this second chapter of John Bunyan's immortal Pilgrim's Progress, Christiana, who had earlier scoffed at her husband for leaving his family in the City of Destruction, experiences true repentance. She receives a shining faith and leads her daughter Credence, her sons Avail and Avow, and her skeptical neighbor Mercy toward the Celestial City. With the guidance of Greatheart, Christiana becomes a loving yet vigilant mother who guards and guides her children through a succession of perilous adventures. At Doubting Castle, Mercy finally embraces the promises of God's Word and is blessed with deep faith. Then, at Pilgrim's Rest, the entire company discovers the meaning of the verse, "For me to live is Christ and to die is to gain."
