Danny Deckchair
Based on a true story, this tale follows Danny, a cement truck driver whose eagerly anticipated vacation is thwarted by his conniving girlfriend Trudy. Seeking escape from his bleak suburban Australian life, he launches into the skies, bound in a chair tethered with helium balloons. A ferocious thunderstorm hurls him off the map, depositing him far away above the verdant town of Clarence. In this new place, he collides with Glenda, Clarence’s sole parking enforcement officer. While media interest back home swirls around the disappearance, Danny seizes the opportunity to reinvent himself and, in the course of his remarkable journey, finds a soul mate in Glenda. Eventually, fate intervenes as Danny’s true identity comes to light, and Trudy—now a tabloid sensation—appears in the idyllic town to reclaim him and drag him back to Sydney. Yet Danny has changed; he has learned what happiness means and has discovered renewed self-worth.
