Empire of Madness
Ignore the misleading title and never assume gore: True Gore II (aka Empire of Madness), released in 1989, is M Dixon Causey's follow-up to the original entry and contains virtually no actual gore. The opening half gathers faux-snuff vignettes reminiscent of low-budget shockumentary anthologies such as Snuff Perversions 1 & 2, Snuff Files, The Dead Files, Violations I & II, or even newer compilations like Murder Collection Volume 1. The latter half then lampoons satanic panic era videos such as Law Enforcement Guide to Satanic Cults and Devil Worship: The Rise Of Satanism, among many others produced in the 80s and 90s. The vignettes show a deliberately inept, almost parodic energy, making it clear Causey is skewering the shockumentary format. Even the credits undercut the genre's pretensions, listing a researcher for a film that had none, and naming a visual archivist instead of a cameraman.
