Fast and Furious

Joel and Garda Sloan, a husband-and-wife detective team who also operate as rare-book sellers in New York, head to Seaside City for a vacation. There, Joel's friend Mike Stevens is in charge of and preparing a beauty pageant. Joel is named one of the judges and has invested $5,000 in the contest, much to Garda's dismay. Promoter Eric Bartell arrives, intent on duping Stevens. When Ed Connors, a New York racketeer, arrives, Bartell is mysteriously murdered. Joel and Garda set out to investigate the murder.
