Spontaneous Human Combustion has tormented humanity for years, randomly turning ordinary people into blazing beings dubbed Infernals. While the first generation are Infernals, the second and third generations become known as pyrokinetics—humans who can govern and shape their flames without losing humanity. To confront this infernal peril, the Special Fire Force is formed. Shinra Kusakabe, a young third-generation pyrokinetic with the uncanny talent to ignite his soles at will, joins the lively, elite Company 8 of the Fire Force. He is resolved to rise as a protector and save lives from the flame threat. Yet the path of a hero is not as Shinra envisioned. Surrounded by challenges both within the Fire Force and from external forces, he presses on to uncover the secrets behind the burning enigma that has long kept him in the dark.
