Flyin' Cut Sleeves
Flyin' Cut Sleeves, completed in 1993, chronicles the Bronx's street gang presidents. Their world is the streets, set against a backdrop of uprooted families, cultural alienation, drugs and violence. Neighborhood youths respond by organizing into street groups known to the members as 'families', yet the press brands them as violent gangs in the starkest terms. Spanning twenty years, the documentary offers a remarkable lens on life in the ghetto across four generations, and on the means people devise to cope from childhood to adulthood as parents and role models for a new generation.
