Flying Leathernecks
Major Daniel Kirby takes command of a Marine fighter squadron on the eve of its first combat mission. The unit is well meaning but undisciplined, repeatedly rationalizing away hard choices and choosing the path of least resistance over what is truly necessary. The root of the problem lies with the second in command, Captain Carl 'Griff' Griffin. Griff is the squadron's best pilot, yet Kirby views him as an ineffective commander who is unwilling to make the difficult decision every leader must face — to place men in harm's way even when they may die.
