Foka
Dr. Dimitri Foka, a Greek physician born in Turkey, survives a Nazi execution in Greece during World War II thanks to his Turkish passport. After earning his medical degree, he returns to his hometown on the island of Imroz (Gökçeada), part of Turkey, where he serves as the island’s sole doctor for many years. In the wake of the Cyprus problem in 1964, state policies targeting the Greek population bring dispossession, violence, and forced migration to the island, yet Foka steadfastly refuses to leave.
