French Fields
French Fields is a British television sitcom that aired 19 episodes from 5 September 1989 to 8 October 1991. It was written by John T. Chapman and Ian Davidson and produced by Thames Television for ITV. The show stars Anton Rodgers and Julia McKenzie as William and Hester Fields, a married couple who follow on from Fresh Fields, which ran from 7 March 1984 to 23 October 1986. After the final run of Fresh Fields, William accepts a role with a French company, and French Fields follows the couple as they relocate to Calais. Among the regulars are Chantal, their French real estate agent and neighbour on the left side of the property. To the right live the horrible and snobbish English couple, the Trendles. Hester and William also cope with Madame Remoleux, an elderly, nearly incomprehensible Frenchwoman who resides in and tends the estate — Les Hirondelles — where they all live. Regular appearances include Monsieur Dax, a local farmer and mayor, and his daughter Marie-Christine, whom Hester attempts to teach English. Nicholas Courtney appears frequently as the Marquis.
