After a fifth-round defeat, boxer Bud Gordon exits the spotlight for good. He now shares a fixer-upper apartment in New Jersey with his girlfriend, aching for the height of his Manhattan days. To claw his way back into the ring, he strikes a deal with a crooked restaurateur. Yet such quick schemes rarely yield lasting rewards, and as the fallout from his negotiations ripples through his life, Bud is forced to choose between staying true to himself and chasing his ambitions.
