Hell Is for Heroes
A World War II drama focused on a single, retaliatory maneuver by a squad of American infantry against the German Siegfried Line. Reese joins a weary group of GIs unexpectedly recalled to the front while on route to a rest area. While most of the men withdraw from positions facing a German pillbox beyond a mine-field, about six soldiers remain to cover a wide front. Through a series of ruses they convince the Germans that a sizable force still holds the sector. Reese then leads two men in an unauthorized and unsuccessful assault on the pillbox, during which the other two are killed; and when the main platoon returns, he faces a court-martial. Rather than endure disgrace, and to prove he was right, he makes a one-man attack on the pillbox.
