Hillside
Hillside (retitled Fifteen for the U.S. audience) is a Canadian-American teen drama that aired on YTV in Canada from 1991 to 1993. Created and produced by John T. Binkley, the series stands as Nickelodeon’s only teenage soap opera and was shot on videotape, mirroring the look of traditional daytime dramas. The project originated as Fifteen in an improvised concept for The Disney Channel, resulting in a 13-episode pilot produced and tested in the United States. When Disney declined to move forward, Nickelodeon partnered with Canadian backers to bring the series to life. In Canada it was known as Hillside during its first two seasons, while the U.S. run across its 65 episodes carried the Fifteen title. The show later circulated in syndication worldwide, including markets in Germany and Israel. With a large, evolving ensemble cast over four seasons, the series featured performers such as Laura Harris, Enuka Okuma, and Ryan Reynolds.
