Home and Away
Home and Away transports viewers to Summer Bay, a fictional coastal town in New South Wales, and chronicles the intertwined personal and professional lives of its residents. The series initially centers on the Fletcher family—Pippa and Tom Fletcher—and their five foster children: Frank Morgan, Carly Morris, Steven Matheson, Lynn Davenport and Sally Keating, who would go on to become among the show's longest-running characters. The show also originally and currently focuses on the Stewart family. Premiering in 1988, Home and Away quickly proved popular in Australia, and within weeks it tackled its first major and disturbing storyline, the rape of Carly Morris; it was one of the first programs to feature such narratives during an early timeslot. Across its run, Home and Away has tackled many adult-themed and controversial storylines, a boldness rarely seen in its restricted timeslot.
