House-Rent Party
Shorty’s wife kicks him out of the house after he spends his time lounging with detective novels and allows his boss, Pigmeat, to avoid paying him for the work he performs at Pigmeat’s Harlem barbershop. When Shorty confronts Pigmeat on the street and demands the wages he is owed, Pigmeat manages to persuade him not only that no salary is due, but that he is actually overpaid by $1.25 a week. Later, Shorty comes across news of a jewel thief at large in Harlem and learns there is a $1,000 reward for the criminal’s capture. He convinces Pigmeat that they can track down the thief, claim the reward, and rise to fame as detectives. Complications ensue.
