Idaten: Tokyo Olympics Story
Tracing Japan's Olympic legacy and the 1964 Tokyo Games, this program sets the stage for Tokyo's return as host in 2020. The narrative unfolds in two halves: the first chronicles marathon runner Kanakuri Shiso, one of Japan's earliest Olympic competitors, who took part in Stockholm in 1912. The second half centers on Tabata Masaji, the coach who established the foundations of Japanese swimming and helped Tokyo secure hosting of the Games for the first time in 1964.
