In This World
Drawing directly from contemporary events, Michael Winterbottom's piercing and prescient drama In This World follows two Afghan refugees, Jamal and his elder cousin Enayat, as they undertake a perilous overland odyssey from their refugee camp in Peshawar, north-west Pakistan. They trek into Turkey on foot, through a snowy pass under Kurdish-controlled territory. Their journey becomes a life-or-death ordeal when they are sealed inside a freight container on a ship bound for Italy, facing suffocation. From there they plan to travel on to Paris, the Sangatte refuge centre, and ultimately seek asylum in London.
