Inheritance
At dawn, Kelsey Akioka sets off across the Kalapana lava fields, camera ready and 80 pounds of gear bearing down on his back. We watch his deliberate, methodical approach to photography unfold amid one of nature’s most stunning and tumultuous spectacles. Beneath a pop-up tent’s shade, he offers these photographs at a modest, makeshift marketplace to apathetic tourists. By day’s end, Kelsey returns home, weary and worn, to his son and elderly father. When he discovers that his friend is sacrificing his passion and leaving home to seek a better life for his family, Kelsey begins to question his own choices. As his mounting frustrations spill into his domestic life, he must confront the inner turmoil stirring within him.
