King Lear

King Lear, a proud ruler, seeks the praise of his three daughters in exchange for the inheritance of the kingdom. Daughters Goneril and Regan profess their affection with vehement ardor. Cordelia, unwilling to flatter in the manner he has prescribed, does not humor him. Lear's perceived rejection of Cordelia leads to her banishment, thereby splitting the kingdom between the remaining two. This hasty decision becomes his fatal error.
