Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India
In 1893, under British rule in India, a remote village faces an oppressive land tax imposed by the merciless Captain Russell. Inspired by defiance, farmer Bhuvan rallies his fellow villagers to oppose the levy openly. To settle the dispute, Russell proposes a cricket match—a sport unfamiliar to the Indian heartland. If Bhuvan and his men can defeat Russell’s team, the tax will be repealed.
