Season 1
The opening arc adapts volumes 1 and 2 of the source novels, weaving in prequel tales (episodes 9 and 11) and new material (portions of episodes 13 and 14). At its core, the series traces Reinhard von Lohengramm's meteoric rise within the Galactic Empire, echoed by Yang Wen-li's hesitation to step beyond his military duties and assume a parallel leadership role in the Free Planets Alliance.

On January 1, 796 S.C. / 487 I.C., in the Astarte star system, a colossal Imperial armada of 20,000 warships commanded by Reinhard von Lohengramm stands poised to be cornered by three Alliance fleets, each comprising 13,000 vessels. Against the advice of his subordinates, Reinhard elects a preemptive strike to cripple each foe before they can join. The Allied commanders, confident in an overall 2-to-1 advantage, fail to foresee the maneuver and rebuff Yang Wen-li's urging to rapidly regroup their forces.
