Love in Disguise

A dirt-poor painter named But Ka-sing shares a roof with Tang Chan-sin and Lee Tai-hak. Smitten with Tse Mei-chen, the penniless suitor fakes his own suicide to turn a fortune from his paintings, which fetch sky-high prices after his feigned death. Reimagining himself as a doctor, But contends with the wealthy heir Fung Chak-chak to win Tse's heart, showering her with an avalanche of gifts and money. Yet Tse rejects the suitor's philistine approach. But he relinquishes his windfall and reveals the truth at his memorial exhibition. Thrilled, Tse pledges her love and marries the painter, for better and for worse.
