Lover of the Last Empress
The tale follows an innocent girl fated to become one of the emperor's concubines. She endures the loss of innocence and the palace intrigues of rival concubines, and, over time, she grows less scrupulous. She is impregnated by the emperor, becoming his wife—the empress of China. Yet the path to power corrupts her, and after the emperor dies she rules the land with terror.
