Man of La Mancha
In the 16th century, the poet, playwright and part-time actor Miguel de Cervantes, together with his manservant, is arrested by the Spanish Inquisition on charges that their entertainment offended the Inquisition. Imprisoned in a vast dungeon, fellow inmates turn on Cervantes and his servant, staging a makeshift trial with the aim of stealing or burning his possessions. Determined to safeguard a manuscript he carries, Cervantes orchestrates an unconventional defense by bringing to life the story of Don Quixote, complete with costumes, makeup, and the participation of the other prisoners.
